Description

Kimono 1951 was developed in Colombia in collaboration with the Curarte group of the Kamëntšá community and the Âme Atelier workshop in Bogotá.

Each piece undergoes a process where woven textiles (chumbes) are blended with cut pieces of fabric (paño). The symbols present in the textiles are from the Kamëntšá community; you will find symbols that, for them, represent the earth, water, mountains, and the womb.

Within the Curarte group’s worldview, the womb, for example, is the origin, the earth that holds memory, the root where life is born.

Wearing this symbol is not about representing the womb.

It is about carrying an idea of continuity, of life, of beginnings.
